Rain and Shine

Drove up to Shirebrook on Saturday morning in the pouring rain.
I took well over 3hrs - mainly due to the bad weather.
Arrived too late to see the Motogp on tv, so that plan didn't work.
However when we got there the sun came out and it was lovely all afternoon.

Played on my brothers playstation - watched Dr Who and a couple of DVDs, had a huge feast of pasta followed by apple crumble and custard, then two tins of lager and bed at about 11.

Nice day.

Loosener

Went for a nice little jog today just to loosen the legs before sunday.

Felt good, a nice relaxed pace.

The boy came with me on his bike and was really enjoying it.
Until he fell off.
A really low speed tumble coming up a kerb, he was fine but made a great dramatic display of injury.
His pride was hurt even more when after the briefest of checks I jogged on.

He stayed a good 30m behind me for the last mile or so and sulked to his mum that I didn't care that he had nearly died.

Ahh bless.

Funny practice

The boy is going to do the Mansfield fun run instead of daughter No1 who double booked.

He wanted to practice so we've just got back from a nice slow 1.5m jog.
He didn't stop talking the whole way around so I guess it was an easy run for him as well.

Two in One

Sunday again - time for a long run.
After watching all the MotoGp I wasn't overly keen especially with the wet weather.
So I decided to do a long run with a few quick miles in the middle.

2 slow ones,
3 quick ones,
2 slow ones,

Quite a nice format for a long run - had my daughter riding her bike beside me.

Drinking Stratagy

Went out for a drink last night - that should be the last pub/club visit until after the run.

Poured 5 pints of guinness down my neck pretty quickly then went home.

I've got two bottles of wine in doors so I'll drink them over the next four nights then no alcohol in the four nights prior to the half marathon.

Well thats the plan.
He he......

A Wheeze

Come on its not rocket science.
I've got Asthma - so before running I take my inhaler!
Got home late from work with a bit of a bad back - probably from driving, come to think of it I did a couple of hours as passenger in my mates car, that could be it.
Anyway decided to go for a quick run over the woods - 3 mile ish, work hard and take in a few good hills.
Dropped daughter no1 at guides daughter no2 came with me on her bike.

1 mile in I could barely breathe, what not taken your medicine!
So I turned back home taking the easiest route.

Not a good run - all It proved was that I'm stupid.
Still, it was a run.

Sore bums

Supposed to be long run today but as its fathers day I decided to take two of the children out on their bikes with me.
Drove to Virginia Waters and jogged around the lake.
Nice at flat, taking it easy, chatting to them as we went.
Really nice.

Pretty much restricted to one lap so...........

Not too bad a run.
Both children a little bit saddle sore.

Blur

Whenever I do laps - usually of a park at the back of Sainsburys - I think of that Blur song Park life where the joggers go round and round and round.

Anyway, I'm on nights tonight surveying the central reserve on the M32 so what better day for my wife to decide to hoover the whole house.
No sleep for me then.

Went for a bag of balls at the golf driving range - still not finished. So of for a run I go.

5 x 750m laps =
1 warm up
1 fast
1 recovery
1 fast
1 warm down

I enjoyed it but it was really humid.

I'm going to be tired tonight.

Disapointed

My daughter can't do the fun run due to being blonde, or at least having the organisational skills of one.
Actually she's brunette so she's a malteser - brown on the outside blonde on the inside.

The date of the half marathon clashes with a school trip to Wales which was booked up and paid for months ago.
She's pissed off about missing the run, not being able to visit my brother up north :) and especially about missing the chance to go on the back of his motorbike.

Lesson in life - keep your diary up to date.

Might take my boy instead.

Anyway good intentions of running, got ready then changed my mind and had a kick about with the boy - did a lot of running around though so I'm counting it.

Maybe I'll go for a proper run tomorrow - I'm on nights so I can do it during the day.

Not to be sniffed at

Yesterday evening in the living room there were several heated debates as to who/whos feet stank.

Everyone could smell it but no one could detect it or own up to it.
After several sock changes by various smelly feeted individuals and plenty of air freshener the culprit was found.

Yep it was me.

Well not me but my trusty old Nike Storm Pegasus which I had inadvertantly cast down the side of the armchair after my run over the woods.

Not only were they a bit damp with footy odours but the treads were full of horse sh*t.

I'm in the dog house and the trainers are banished to the garden with dog.

Shuffle

Sunday again which means long run day.

My pre-run stratagy was to go over the woods and run as slow as posible for 1hr 30mins.
The theory being that the woods will be easier on my sore knee and stop me running too fast.

So off I went - any slower and I would have been walking, so I shuffled along sweating my nuts off in the heat.
Saw a few woodpeckers, loads of squirrels, a couple of dear and some squadies playing soldiers.
I like running over the woods.

Not fast - which is good,
Not the hour and a half I wanted - but ok,
Bpm? I didn't work very hard did I.

Cross Training

Well thats what I call any exercise these days.

Got up at 06:15 and went swimming with the 3 children.
Swam quite a few lengths, mainly breast stroke as when I do crawl I sink.

Back home, coffee, toast and MotoGP on tv.

Don't you just love sundays!

Girls stuff

Shauna did some running in PE at school today.
Sorry - training for the Mansfield fun run.

But it can't be training if she was made to do it, can it?

Anyway she had to run 400m, a very quick break then another 400m.
Thats metres not miles by the way.

So thats it - she's ready, and still 3 weeks to decide what to wear.

Thursday, 7 June 2007

eh?

Thats my running number typed with predictive text. 341 got it today.

Decided to go for a little run over the woods after a day in the office shining my trousers.
Knee was feeling a bit better so a jog over the woods would be kinder terrain.

Felt good - ran further than planed taking in a few decent hills, the last one made my thights pretty hot (thats the burning feeling not "hot").
In fact as I was going out both my daughters were standing at the door and laughing at my "skinny chicken legs".
Hey the waist maybe a few inches wider but the legs are doing me fine thanks very much.

Anyway.
Nice run - quite a few hills.

Kneesy does it

Sore knee so no running, no I have honestly, its not just another pathetic excuse (they'll come thick and fast later).

I've spent the last 3 days at work surveying on the motorway - which simply means walking up and down the hardshoulder of the M5 at Exeter for 6 hrs a day.
It was sore yesterday and bloody annoying today.

I'm in the office all day tomorrow so it should ease of enough for a jog tomorrow evening.

Go on say it, I know you thinking it - silly sods to old he should hang up his plimpsoles.
Ah ha, you've forget how stupid I am haven't you.

Mileage, at my age!

It's the weekend and that can only mean one thing!
Guinness?
Sleep?
MotoGP?
Well yes, but also the long run.

First long run of my compact schedule, with the plan being to do a 7 mile route really slowly - barely more than a walk if need be.

Rubbish.
Went for the 7 miler felt comfortable but was way too fast, worked too hard and suffered in the heat.

7m
1hr 7mins
166 avg bpm

Bad.
1) Worked too hard for a long training run - will use bpm to dictate slow pace next week.
2) Really suffered with the heat - I usually only run Dec to Apr, summers are for golf and swimming.
3) Wore a regular T-shirt instead of a running vest - silly old fool, can't of helped with the heat.

Good.
1) I can still run 7 miles without collapsing - half way there.
2) No more long runs for a week.
